Structure

The structural elements of a building can be concealed or celebrated.  At the Patriots Peace Memorial, the concrete support columns are expressed and animated.  The irregular spacing gives a sense of motion, while the proportions allude to the idea of pallbearers, carrying the heavy load of those who gave their lives in the military.

Hidden

In order to achieve the 16′ cantilevered roofs at either end of the Quillin Residence, the two long exterior walls were designed as giant trusses.  Massive structural elements were required to create a feeling of lightness.  This bit of theater allows the home to sit lightly (in a visual sense) on its low, marshy site.
