Richardson Residence, Ocean City, MD, 2002

This residence was designed to reflect its coastal location, as well as to create quiet outdoor space — in the midst of a crowded neighborhood — by shaping a courtyard in the center of the house that is open to the water.

The street view is an assembly of traditional forms.  The house is oriented around a courtyard which faces out to the water. Cascading decks through the courtyard provide numerous small outdoor areas.  The tower room allows the owner to see the sportfishing boats returning to harbor.

For her, the home is focused on the water and Assateague Island in the background. For him, the house is focused on his sport fishing boat at the dock. David D. Quillin, AIA
