Lovability

All buildings need to be maintained.  Maintenance is an act of love, and unloved buildings won’t receive it.   No matter how energy efficient and sustainable a building is, without maintenance it is on its way to demolition and replacement.  The 1970’s saw great technological leaps in energy efficient buildings, but many of them were unpleasant spatially and aesthetically.  Most of these buildings were demolished long ago, thereby wasting the resources that went into constructing them.  A building that is lovable — that provides a space for meaningful human interaction within a structure that provides a desirable identity — will receive the care needed to last for many years.
